Job Description:

Campus Title: Assistant Track and Field Throwers Coach

Job Type: Part-Time
Timeframe: Academic Year
Shift: TBD, nights and weekends
Salary: $4,000 stipend 

General Statement of Duties: Westfield State University has an immediate opening for assistant part-time Track and Field Coach for Throwers. Experience in collegiate or high school coaching is preferred, as well as an understanding of a competitive NCAA Division III program. The assistant coach will provide administrative, instructional, and recruiting support services under the direction and supervision of the Head Coach.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to:
Essential:

  • The primary duty will be to assist in coaching men and women Throwers.
  • Assist and supervise in water practices for individuals and groups as assigned.
  • The Assistant Coach will assist with recruiting as directed by the head coach.
  • The Assistant Coach will assist with the management of team travel and meal coordination.
  • The Assistant Coach will promote a culture of health, well-being, and safety in all aspects of the team.
  • The dates of final coaching responsibilities are from December-May.
  • The Assistant Coach will drive a team van on occasion.
  • The duties and responsibilities are based on a yearly length of service and are renewable at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
  • All Departmental, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations will be followed.
  • All compensation shall be based upon hours actually worked as recorded on weekly time sheets throughout the entire year.
  • All Assistant Coaches are required to be CPR/AED, First Aid Certified and certification opportunities exist annually within the Athletics Department


Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high level of competency in Track and Field.
  • An understanding of the role of intercollegiate athletics.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes and staff.
  • Valid Driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three to four years of experience as a Thrower
  • One to three years of experience coaching at the high school or college level.

 


Additional Information:

Salary:
For the majority of new employees, the minimum starting salary will apply. Specific salary for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining and state policies and procedures.

Covid-19 Requirements:

As a condition of employment, you will be required to complete an initial series of COVID vaccination (2 doses of Pfizer/Moderna or 1 dose of J&J) prior to coming to campus. Initial booster doses are strongly encouraged for everyone who is eligible. New employees will be required to provide proof of vaccination to Human Resources prior to onboarding.
