Job Summary: The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing obstetrical and gynecological patient care within the scope and standards of care, the diagnosis of illness and physical conditions, and performance of therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures of the designated patient population and within a collaborative practice agreement established with a specific physician on the staff of the Department of OB GYN, University OB GYN Associates Inc. Performs complete health history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment of patients within the designated practice or clinical unit. Orders customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, and differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending MD or with the collaborating
physician. Formulates the plan of care along with the attending physician, the patient, and their family, based on expected goals of care. Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care that maximizes individual patient/family preference and enhances quality, access, and cost-effective outcomes. Prescribes appropriate medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances (with DEA authorization). Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol. Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws of Upstate Medical University. Evaluates treatment and health care plans for effectiveness and modifies per clinical standards and practice protocols. Educates and supports patient and family to facilitate and promote healthy adjustment to new or changed health patterns. Acts as a professional role model to all levels of staff by incorporating expertise and related experience into all aspects of patient care. Plans and organizes care to meet individual patient needs and to ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols, pathways, and other means. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team including the attending physician to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for a patient and ensure communication with family members. Minimum Qualifications:

NYS licensed/registered NP as a Family/Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse (NYS NP specialty area of certification must be consistent with practice). Must have NPI number and be Medicare Enrolled with Medicare Identification Number (or PTAN) OR be eligible for Medicare Enrollment within 6 months of hire (eligibility criteria for NP requires National Certification through AANP or ANCC, and Master's Degree) (eligibility criteria for PA requires graduation from an accredited PA program and National Certification through NCCPA). Initial certification must be present or obtained within 6 months of hire. Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required. Current Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification or will obtain within first month of employment.  

Preferred Qualifications:

At least three years of clinical experience, one of which is obsterics and gynecology preferred.  

Work Days:

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with occasional weekends & holidays
