An Academic Support Center tutor provides academic support to Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute students. Providing academic support means helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become independent learners. Academic Support Center tutors help students clarify and/or reinforce course content, understand assignments and material, and strengthen study skills.
Additional assistance might include: reviewing class material, discussing the text, predicting test questions, working on solutions to problems, or providing technical support for digital components of classes

Interpersonal communication skills, including a well-developed ease in relating to people from varied backgrounds

Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship
Create an atmosphere of mutual trust, support, and compassion for students
Demonstrate attitude of friendliness and customer service
Relate to students, faculty and staff in a congenial and professional manner
Environmental Conditions:
The employee should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office and classroom workspace, working closely with others, and periodically working irregular hours.
The employee must maintain the office and teaching environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.
Physical Conditions:
Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following; standing, walking or sitting for extended periods, moderate lifting and carrying, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and extended exposure to computer screens.
The employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.
Additionally, the employee must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.
Scheduling:
This is a part-time position, with flexible scheduling, based on the needs of the office, and must maintain a weekly schedule of available hours in a physical Writing Center or a virtual Writing Center space.
Travel:
Local travel is seldom required.
Required Experience and Training:
Associate degree or higher, including successful course completion with a B or higher in the subject(s) to be tutored with an instructor recommendation in the subject area.
