Job Description:

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks a Business Analyst to collaborate with stakeholders across the University and within ITS to identify and propose opportunities for innovation and business process improvements to enhance academic and administrative experiences for the campus community.

The Business Analyst is part of a team of professionals responsible for the continuous innovation and improvement of services by analyzing current business processes, and considering goals and roadmaps, to provide recommendations for improvement. She/He/They will be responsible for the continuous improvement and development of business process analysis standards and best practices.

The successful candidate has excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to cultivate relationships with a wide range of constituents ranging from campus leadership to front-line staff. The Business Analyst is expected to work well with limited supervision and within a team environment.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Perform business process analysis, design, and requirements gathering to establish or enhance business process efficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Define scope and objectives to lead customers in mapping current to future state business processes that align with goals.
  • Provide business analysis coaching and guidance to ITS staff members.
  • Work closely with technical staff to ensure system designs meet customer business needs and requirements.
  • Develop user acceptance test plans and lead user acceptance test sessions.
  • Act as a liaison between customers, vendors, and technical service teams to identify and resolve issues or problems.
  • Stay up to date on the latest features and advancements to automate or improve processes for products within assigned scope.
  • Keep skills current by maintaining and following a professional development plan.
  • Develop and maintain documentation to capture business process analysis best practices and standards, and track business process changes.
  • Support the Project Management Office by taking part in ongoing improvement and enhancement of processes and approaches to project work.
  • Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Applicants must clearly address their ability to work with a culturally diverse population in their application or during the interview.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience applying business and/or process analysis concepts such as defining business needs, solution requirements, investigating and implementing potential solutions, and process documentation and improvement.
  • Ability to independently organize work, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple and changing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education and/or familiarity with the unique needs of an academic institution.
  • Experience working in the role of Business Analyst in a PeopleSoft environment.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and effectively communicating with both functional and technical stakeholders of all organizational levels.
  • Experience coaching junior business analysts and/or technical staff in business process analysis and design.
  • IIBA and/or other recognized certifications.

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Assistant for University Systems Analysis, SL4; $81,000-86,000
