Description

This is an academic position in the practice and teaching of orthopaedic surgery to medical students, residents, and allied health professionals, providing orthopaedic and rehabilitation care to patients in central and southern Illinois and promote research and scholarly activity within the Division.

Examples of Duties

I. Administration 10%
This individual will perform administrative duties as requested by the Chairman of the Division of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation.

II. Teaching 15%
A.    Participate in the development and implementation of specific undergraduate
curricula in orthopaedics and rehabilitation, specifically the Orthopaedic Residency Surgical Simulation curriculum
B.    Participate directly in orthopaedics and rehabilitation residency training.
C.    Participate in and conduct continuing education programs in orthopaedics and rehabilitation within the clinical faculty, community physicians and allied health professionals.
D.    Provide a role model as a teacher in orthopaedics and rehabilitation, pediatric orthopaedic surgery.

III. Research 15%
A.    Stimulate and initiate clinical research efforts in the areas of pediatric Orthopaedics.
B.    Seek extra and intramural grant support
C.    Provide a role model as an investigator and medical writer.

IV. Service 60%
A.    Assist in the coordination of multiple disciplinary clinics for the care of pediatric orthopaedics injured people.
B.    Set an example of highly skilled and conscientious practice of orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation that is balanced with self education and other academic activities as an example to future practitioners in orthopaedics and rehabilitation.
C.    Maintain an orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation practice in order to maintain clinical proficiency.
D.    Participate on Orthopaedic call schedule
E.    Provide a role model as practitioner for faculty, house staff, students and fellow practitioners.
F.    Participate in peer review for assessing clinical practice for faculty within the Division.
G.    Represent the Division of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in regional, state and national matters pertaining to the field of orthopaedics and rehabilitation.
H.    Attend national meetings, symposia, etc., in orthopaedics and rehabilitation and related fields for the purpose of contribution, gaining of further knowledge and as an example to other physicians.
I.    Present papers at meetings of orthopaedics and rehabilitation and other related fields.
J.    Serve on committees in national, regional and state societies pertaining to orthopaedics and rehabilitation.
K.    Represent the Department of Surgery or the Division of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation or both on committees as requested by the Chairman of the Department or the Chairman of the Division of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. 

Qualifications

1.    Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations
2.    MD License: Able to be licensed in the State of Illinois.
3.    Fellowship trained in Pediatric Orthopaedics.
4.    Alternate Education path Board-eligible or Board Certified in Orthopaedics
