Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Computer Science

Trinity University is seeking early career candidates for an appointment in the Computer Science department. A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field is required.

The position will be selected from candidates with expertise in any area of Computer Science. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for teaching courses in computer science, including courses in their domain of expertise, as well as introductory and upper-level courses required for all of our majors. Candidates should have a high potential for teaching in the liberal arts environment of Trinity University. This includes contributing to the core curriculum taken by all Trinity students, the Pathways curriculum, by teaching courses for our interdisciplinary clusters and/or providing experiential learning opportunities for our undergraduate students. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of scholarship in their relevant discipline, and have a plan to continue their scholarship that includes undergraduate students in their scholarship. Candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills; a commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate students; and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Further encouraging collaboration, the Computer Science department is housed in the Center for the Sciences and Innovation (CSI), built in 2013 and housing all of the STEM fields and Entrepreneurship. You will be joining about 270 faculty members at an attractive residential campus overlooking downtown San Antonio, a city rich in heritage and ethnic diversity with a population in the greater area of 2.2 million. San Antonio is a particularly lively and vibrant city regarding computing. San Antonio is second in the nation (after the Washington, D.C. area) in information assurance and cyber-security; and significantly due to San Antonio, Texas is second (after California) in technology in general. With a strong diversity of established companies and startups, San Antonio provides excellent resources in information assurance & security, bioinformatics, and cloud computing.

The Computer Science Department, 51 years old, is well integrated into campus life. We currently have 9 tenured or tenure-track Computer Science faculty, with diverse research and teaching interests including artificial intelligence, game theory, physical simulations, bioinformatics, databases, parallel computing, logic programming, and formal verification. Our students are among the best in the University and secure excellent offers for jobs and graduate schools. Recent graduates are now employed at Google, Facebook, IBM, GitHub, USAA, and more; and those pursuing graduate degrees have attended Harvard, Princeton, Rice, Univ. of Massachusetts, and more. Several former students have founded successful companies, including RackSpace and the Denim Group.
