Baystate Health/UMass Medical – IHDPS
JOB CODE: BY19
RESEARCH PROJECT MANAGER
GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Remote working arrangement is possible for the first year.
Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator or designee, the Project Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of NIH or other externally funded, large scale projects. The Project Manager will collaborate with investigators, consultants, project directors, and contract officers at the university, commonwealth, and national levels.
The overarching goals of the Institute for Healthcare Delivery and Population Science (IHDPS) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School–Baystate are to achieve: better health for the people of the communities we serve; better value of healthcare services; and the elimination of health disparities. Using state of the art methods in comparative effectiveness research and implementation science, Institute faculty develop, implement, and evaluate innovative strategies to: transform the delivery of healthcare services; translate evidence into routine practice; and generate new knowledge about what works, when, and under what circumstances. We accomplish this by conducting health services research projects in partnership with our local, regional, and national stakeholders.
IHDPS seeks an experienced Research Project Manager to join an NIH (NHLBI)-funded research study that commenced in September 2021. The study is a single-center, hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial, involving patients who have had an exacerbation of COPD, evaluating 3 strategies for increasing participation in Pulmonary Rehabilitation: enhanced usual care (eUC), eUC + Storytelling, eUC + Peer support. Using a mixed-methods approach we will evaluate additional implementation outcomes, and apply the knowledge gained to refine the interventions over the course of the trial and at the end of the study, in order to achieve sustainability and maximal uptake. Peer-support is a promising approach for increasing participation in PR. The model involves pairing a patient with a peer from a similar background and facing similar health challenges who has successfully completed PR. ‘Storytelling’, is a novel approach for changing patient attitudes and behaviors that involves creating and disseminating engaging videos narrated by individuals with lived experience with PR.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to join a health services research team in clinical trials and mixed-methods research. Must be highly organized and able to communicate professionally and effectively both in person and in writing. This is a multi-year study and we are ideally looking for someone for a minimum of two years. Clinical Trials Experience strongly preferred.
