Job Summary

Coordinate the peer tutoring program in the non-quantitative disciplines and liaise between faculty and tutors. To create academic support programming in the Learning Commons in Neilson library. To teach learning strategies courses and conduct academic success workshops. To support the Director of the Jacobson Center in achieving center goals and priorities.

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

*This is a part-time, 9-month, academic year position (23 hours per week) with pro-rated benefits.*

Essential Functions

Recruit, interview, hire, train, supervise, and approve payroll for peer tutors in the non-quantitative disciplines. Develop training materials for tutor training. Maintain CRLA certification for peer tutors. Participate in creating budget strategies for the Center’s tutorial services. Monitor student payroll expenses.

Teach IDP 136, Applied Learning Strategies, a 1-credit learning strategies course, each semester.

Develop and maintain contacts with other support services (such as the Office of the Class Deans and the Office for Disability Services) and with faculty. Offer college success skills support through workshops and, as time allows, individual appointments. Disseminate information about Jacobson Center services through orientations, workshops, and campus news outlets.

Other Functions

Support the Director of the Jacobson Center in achieving center goals and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

MA/MS/MEd plus 1-3 years of tutorial services experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Some teaching experience.

Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Skills

Excellent skills in communication, presentation, and group dynamics. Ability to learn and incorporate new technologies. Ability to supervise and manage more than fifty students. Empathy and sound judgment. Sensitivity and understanding of the needs of a diverse student body.
