Summary:
Assist in managing daily operations of the department. Supervise subordinate staff members. Facilitate program development. Contribute to the evaluation process under the supervision of the occupational therapist. Implement specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy under the supervision of the occupational therapist in all areas in the hospital system including but not limited to: Acute care, Outpatient, CMR. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment teams.

None.Specialized or Technical Education Required:Graduate of an accredited program for occupational therapy assistants. Louisiana state license as required and national registration preferred. Temporary License accepted while therapist is in licensure process.Manual or Physical Skill Required:Body mechanics. Working knowledge of proper equipment used for occupational therapy treatments.Physical Effort Required:Intermittent exertion in positioning, lifting, transferring patients, equipment or other materials. Walking and standing predominant although some stooping, kneeling and reaching are required. Responsibilities:
1. Provide Occupational Therapy Services. Assist occupational therapist during an evaluation as determined by the O.T. Practice Act, gathering data from a variety of sources of such as records, interviews, observation, and team members.2. Assist the occupational therapist in developing a plan of treatment for assigned patients including specific goals and activities. Report changes in status to supervising therapist in order to adjust the treatment plan accordingly. Treat assigned patients and guide individual patients in selection of appropriate activities. Lead specialized activities under supervision of occupational therapist.3. Demonstrate knowledge of the diagnoses, precautions, and contraindications associated with all aspects of patient care.4. Demonstrate an understanding of treatment goals and patient care plan developed in the initial evaluation by the Occupational therapist.5. Prepare written documentation as required by the profession and the department such as individualized treatment plans, progress notes, and other such reports.6. Submit charges as per department policy.7. Collaborates with Occupational Therapist to set reasonable, functional goals and treatment plan with consideration for age, diagnosis, medical and psychosocial background.8. Participate in discharge planning with the interdisciplinary team members.9. Communicate observations, facts and comments with nursing and interdisciplinary team members, individually, and through team meeting presentations to ensure efficient coordination of the overall health care plan.10. Supervise subordinate staff under the direction of the occupational therapist. Assist occupational therapist with scheduling of patients.11. Provide clinical supervision of patient treatments, support staff, family and inter-team communication, and record keeping. Attend staff conferences and family conferences.12. Act as liaison with nursing, medical staff and other hospital personnel to facilitate problem solving and coordination of services and act as educational resource.13. Identify needs in program planning and facilitate program development.14. Provide the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.15. Comply with department policies, procedures, objectives, and safety, environmental, infection control and quality assurance programs.16. Supervise COTA students as assigned by supervisor.17. Participate in educational programs, in-service meetings and attends other meetings as required.18. Meet the needs of patients in the waiting area and treatment rooms in an appropriate and safe manner.19. Maintain appointment books, logs, charge records and schedules as necessary for the daily operations of the department20. Prepare treatment areas for incoming patients, transport patients to the Rehabilitation Services Department, and prepare patients and equipment for treatments.21. Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.22. Follow North Oaks Health System’s Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
