Biweekly Hours: 80.00

Shift: Mon - Friday 9-5 pm some evenings

Summary: 

Responsible for assisting individuals with nicotine addiction using evidence-based strategies in both individual and group for smoking cessation. Educates families on the risks associated with tobacco use and provides parents with evidence-based strategies for quitting smoking. In addition, links individuals to community resources that support them on their journey of being smoke free. Works to deliver evidence-based smoking cessation programming in a variety of in-person, telehealth, and distance learning formats. Serves as coach and educator, counseling individuals and groups to elicit adoption and maintenance of nicotine avoidance. Onboards new program participants. Works to enhance participant engagement, and appointment and class attendance through full series of programming to enhance outcomes. Adheres to study protocol for delivery of services for individuals enrolled in smoking cessation-related research studies. Documents coaching sessions as required by department and/or research protocol. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

 


Qualifications:

Required: Associate degree in health-related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in addition to the experience stated below. 2 years of chemical dependency counseling or social service-related work. Current Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant I or II, for the State of Ohio from the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board (OCDP). Complete human subjects protection training prior to participating in delivery of research-related smoking cessation coaching. Obtains National Certificate Tobacco Treatment Practice (NCTTP) for the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors within 6 months of being hired. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of behavior change. Ability to guide behavior change efforts without prescribing personal actions or solutions to achieve behavior change. Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures and build community within a group. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office. Proficient in multi-tasking and problem-solving. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, requiring high mobility and physical activity. Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly and adapt to changes in the work environment are essential. Ability to manage multiple and/or simultaneous responsibilities, and to prioritize one’s work schedule. Ability to maintain confidentiality for all medical, financial, and legal information. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with other employees and medical staff. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred: Experience in motivational interviewing and 1:1 lifestyle change coaching. Experience in group facilitation. Knowledge of basic smoking cessation principles. Knowledge of basic EPIC functionality. Speaks, reads, and writes Spanish proficiently. Current Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC II) or higher for the State of Ohio from the OCDP. Physical Demands: Ability to move around intermittently during the day, including sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and ambulating. Ability to carry equipment to MetroHealth sites for weigh-in sessions (e.g. professional scale, stadiometer, materials, laptop). Ability to remain still for extended periods, including sitting and standing. Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, videoconferencing, and other communications. Ability to read job related documents. Ability to use computer.
