The Pharmacy Intern supports the Pharmacist's activities, including order processing, manufacture of all departmental solutions, processing floor stock orders, maintaining drug inventories, and drug deliveries.  Perform other duties as assigned.

About this unit:

  • The Tulane Medical Center Pharmacy Department services the needs of our inpatient, emergency room, surgical and outpatient oncology/infusion populations

Responsibilities:
  • Prepares, fills and labels medication cassettes and/or carts.
  • Prepares standardized doses of medication for patient use.  Manufactures all departmental admixtures, including nutrition products, and chemotherapy. Compounds medications as ordered.
  • Monitors, process and restocks all returns to inventory, discontinued medications eliminating all expired medications.
  • Processes patient account charges, credits and discharges.
  • Prepares syringes for use in I.V. pumps and oral syringes. Cleans and maintains I.V. hoods and equipment used to prepare compounded and manufactured products.
  • Acts in the capacity of a Pharmacy Technician as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration:  In attendance (or newly graduated yet unlicensed) at an accredited College of Pharmacy ( defined by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education) and working toward the completion of a Bachelor of Science or a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree.
  • Education:  In the process of completing undergraduate or graduate training in clinical pharmacy.
  • Experience:  None required.
  • Special qualifications:  Eligible for work permit and a valid Intern Registration Certificate in the State of Louisiana.
  • Work schedule: PRN
