The Med/Surg Foat Pool consists of Registered Nurses that work throughout the hospital on six different medical/surgical units: cardiac, oncology/GYN, Ortho/Neuro, Medicine/Renal, general surgery and ICU. Float pool nurses are a flexible dynamic group that enjoys the challenges and experiences gained by working in various specialties within the medical/surgical department. MSFP Nurses work on various units and build relationships with individuals of all disciplines throughout the organization.

The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the planning, implementing and evaluation of care for a given patient population with the established standards and practices of Crouse Hospital.  This process is enacted through direct clinical practice, management of patient care and general professional duties.

Job Requirements: IF HIRED OR LICENSED AFTER 1/1/2017:

Required: Graduate of an accredited Nursing degree.  MUST complete BSN (Bachelors in Nursing) within 8 years of hire date into the Registered Nurse position. Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. Must have a least one (1) year of recent med/surg experience and possess strong clinical skillIf hired as a Graduate Nurse, a NYS limited licensure work permit must be obtained within ninety (90) days of graduation and the GN must successfully pass the NCLEX exam within 120 days of the beginning of employment to obtain the required professional nursing licensure with New York State. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire or within 2 weeks after hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification must be obtained within one (1) year of the hire date, if deemed necessary for the position based on the scope of the assigned role.

Preferred: Certification in a specialty area.
