Street Maintenance Worker II ($23.00 per hour - $31.05 per hour)

The Town of Truckee is currently accepting applications for a full-time Street Maintenance Worker II.

Definition

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair duties to Town streets, easements, and rights-of-way; to safely and efficiently perform snow and ice removal from Town streets in adverse weather conditions; and to respond to hazardous materials spills or other road hazards in support of public safety departments.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Street Maintenance Worker I - This is the entry level class in the Street Maintenance Worker series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience. The Street Maintenance Worker I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.

Street Maintenance Worker II - This is the journey level class in the Street Maintenance Worker series and is distinguished from the I level by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level based on the performance of the full scope of work, meeting performance standards, and meeting the requirements of the II level.

Supervision Received And Exercised

Street Maintenance Worker I
Receives immediate supervision from the Street Maintenance Supervisor.

Street Maintenance II
Receives general supervision from the Street Maintenance Supervisor.

Examples Of Important And Essential Duties - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform a variety of duties involved in the maintenance and construction of streets, easements, and rights-of-way including paving, patching, crack sealing, removing obstructions, and laying gravel.
  • Perform responsible duties involving the striping and painting of Town streets, parking stalls, cross walks, turn arrows, stop bars, school zones, and curbs.
  • Operate a full range of heavy equipment including graders, loaders, backhoe, tandem and single axle trucks, sweepers, tractors, and pavers in the repair and maintenance of streets, the clearing of brush for flood control and drainage purposes, and the removal of fallen trees.
  • Participate in winter snow and ice removal operations to ensure safe passage of the genera public, school buses, and emergency vehicles including plowing, snow removal, sanding, salting, and snow blowing.
  • Install and repair guardrails and snowpoles.
  • Fabricate, install and maintain street signs.
  • Clean Town streets including removing brush, debris, and leaves.
  • Set out appropriate signs to ensure worker and traffic safety; flag traffic as necessary.
  • Respond to hazardous materials spills, vehicle accidents or other road hazard conditions in support of public safety personnel.
  • Provide training and technical project oversight to less experienced and seasonal staff.
  • Perform maintenance checks and perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment, tools and vehicles; check tires, oil, lubricant, and water levels, lights, and fuel; wash and lubricate equipment.
  • Maintain shop and storage areas used in performing assigned tasks; maintain cleanliness of work area and tools.
  • Complete and maintain a variety of records and reports.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools in the performance of duties and loading and hauling of equipment.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
