Special Education Teacher Full Time, Includes PERS and benefits

General Position Summary
Maintain a caseload of k-12 special education students in an inclusion model, with a variety of eligibility categories including but not limited to: specific learning disabilities, health impairments, and autism spectrum disorder. Work close with three full time instructional aides and classroom teachers at all grade levels.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Support individual or small groups of students in the general education setting and the pull out setting if necessary
Developing and adapting conventional teaching methods and materials to stay compliant with IEP's and maximize student growth.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to define appropriate activities for pupils in relation to standards and ability level.
Demonstrate an understanding of developmentally appropriate reading, writing, and math skills and move students from stage to stage in meeting grade level standards.
Assessing students using standardized academic tests (i.e. KTEA)
Comply with all IDEA rules and regulations and state rules and regulations including but not limited to: annual IEP meetings, initial special referrals, and 3-year re-evaluations.
Communicate with parents
Understand the principles of positive behavior management/modification
Demonstrate professionalism, willingness to learn from others, and collaboration skills to implement projects with peers
Demonstrate adaptability and adhere to respectful professional interaction with peers
Attend and actively participate in meeting and trainings as required by Oasis Academy administration
Abide by policies and procedures to maintain compliance with FERPA regulations
Abide by policies established in the Oasis Academy Staff Handbook
Available as needed for planning on non student contact days
Satisfactorily perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills
Understanding and appreciation for project based learning, DAILY 5/ CAFE, Common Core Math, TRIBES learning communities
Fluent use of educational technological platforms and common office software packages such as Google Drive/Apps and Starboard software
Must be able to perform at a high level in written and verbal communication

Required Experience and/or Education
Minimum earned bachelor degree in a field related to special education
Current endorsement or certification in special education
Three years work experience in teacher education preferred

Special Education Instructional Assistant Full Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision and PERS); 9 month position, salary spread over 12 months.

Work under the direction of the Head of Special Programs and with the entire special education team, pushing into general education classrooms to support students with special needs. Must be able to support students in high school math (algebra ii and geometry) and science (physics and biology).

Works with the teacher to implement a program of instruction that adheres to the school's philosophy, goals and objectives as outlined in the school's charter.
Works with the teacher in creating a classroom environment conducive to learning.
Uphold board policy, school procedures, rules and is supportive of them to the public.
Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other staff members.
Shares responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school, including the playground.
Works with the teacher in providing for the supervision of assigned students when circumstances require.
Genuinely enjoys working with children and helping them develop and learn.
Maintain accurate records as assigned by classroom teachers.
Communicate and interact with all school students, families and personnel in a professional manner
Abide by policies and procedures to maintain compliance with FERPA regulations.
Notify Administrator of planned absences ahead of time. Two weeks of notice is expected for extended time away (longer than 48 hours) so that adequate coverage can be arranged.
Satisfactorily perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience and/or Education
Oasis Academy will hire a minimum of 2 instructional aides who either have a degree and are interested in becoming a licensed teacher through alternate route to licensure; or who are committed to starting their teaching degree program within the 2020-2021 school year.
Previous work with children.

Cohort Coach Approximately 20 hours a week.

Attends dual enrollment courses at WNC, takes attendance, keeps tracks of grades, meets weekly with leadership to discuss student progress, and works with small groups of high school students to help them be successful in dual enrollment courses. via supplemental instruction.

Board Secretary
This is a part time job which averages 24 hours per month. This individual prepares all the public documents required by Nevada Open Meeting Law, post agendas in accordance with Nevada Open Meeting Law, takes minutes at all public meetings, and maintains permanent records in accordance with Nevada Open Meeting Law. Some public committee meetings are during business hours. There is one monthly board meeting at night (7 p.m. start time). This individual needs to be extremely organized, proficient in google docs, and have an eye for detail.
