Responsible for assuring coding is being performed accurately. Is responsible for assessing coding accuracy and completeness of inpatient and outpatient medical record documentation by conducting random and focused coding audits; documenting, preparation and timely presentation of audit results. Educates individuals on the rules/regulations associated with coding. Functions as lead coding advisor to Coding Specialists and answers all educational questions timely. Functions as Lead Coding Advisor to assigned HIS Coding Specialists (95%). Performs other duties as assigned such as, assists when needed, with abstracting Medical Records to identify, sequence, and code diagnostic and procedural information timely and accurately (5%). Responsible for accurately and timely coding of outpatient and professional medical records following established coding, CMS regulations and hospital guidelines. Reviews all types of outpatient encounters and accurately codes diagnostic and procedural information following coding guidelines and regulations information including, facility specific guidelines and federal regulations. Reviews patient encounters and assigns diagnostic ICD-10-CM and or/procedural CPT codes according to established coding, CMS and hospital guidelines (95%). Responsible for accurately coding outpatient ROP, ED or professional physician services encounters. Maintains productivity and quality rate according to established standards. Ensures optimal CPT/ASC/APC/APG assessment. Works within UH billing time frames. Maintains coding knowledge and skills via written coding resources, clinical information and educational webinars. Maintains knowledge of guidelines and regulations affecting the UHHS Coding Department. Maintains up to date credentials. Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by AHIMA. Participates in educational and informational activities as required. Assists with other responsibilities as needed (5%).

High School Equivalent / GED Coding Cert w/ 6 months of hire (CCA, CPC, CPC-A CPC-H, CPC-P, CCS, CCS-P, RCC, ROCC, RHIT, or RHIA). 1+ yrs ICD-10-CM and/or CPT coding exp pref.
