Job Summary:

The Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) is responsible for providing customer service at the Service Center and administrative support to the department. The incumbent is responsible for greeting and assisting employees/customers, managing the main phone lines, and responding to general payroll inquiries or forwarding to the appropriate person. Duties include but are not limited to: Issuing payroll badges for employees, students and non-employees; including approving NEMS requests for non-employee badges. Assist in distributing advance checks to employees as needed and coordinating conference rooms for appointments with customers as needed. Responsible for scanning, filing and indexing confidential payroll documents and other files as assigned. May deescalate situations with customers pertaining to direct deposit errors or why employees may have not received their paychecks, referring to supervisor as needed. Review payroll forms with customers to ensure accuracy. Other clerical duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

New York State Department of Civil Service Eligible List or eligible for transfer.

A provisional appointee will be required to take and pass the next NYS Department of Civil Service exam for Office Assistant 1 (insert title series) and score high enough on the next NYS Department of Civil Service Eligible List to be reachable for permanent appointment as one of the top three ranking acceptors.

There are no educational or experience requirements to qualify for a provisional appointment.
