The Events and Hospitality Management department is seeking a Custodian I for the Havener Center and newly constructed Innovation Lab to perform routine, manual work utilizing knowledge of various custodial materials, equipment, methods, and procedures used in maintaining a clean, neat, and orderly building. Work is subject to spot-checking for neatness, cleanliness, and workmanship with periodic review for overall effectiveness. Functional contacts include co-workers, service department employees, and all personnel utilizing building facilities.

Job Description
The Events and Hospitality Management department is seeking a Custodian I for the Havener Center and newly constructed Innovation Lab to perform routine, manual work utilizing knowledge of various custodial materials, equipment, methods, and procedures used in maintaining a clean, neat, and orderly building. Work is subject to spot-checking for neatness, cleanliness, and workmanship with periodic review for overall effectiveness. Functional contacts include co-workers, service department employees, and all personnel utilizing building facilities.

Key Responsibilities

-        Perform duties in the care and cleaning of the Havener Center and Innovation Lab (conference rooms, offices, classrooms, entryways, restrooms, and dock).

-        Clean floors (sweep, mop, wax, vacuum, extractor), empty trash receptacles, dust furniture, clean windows and windowsills, and other cleaning-related duties.

-        Sweep and shovel snow near building entrances.

-        Will work in areas requiring special use of disinfectants, cleaning techniques, and sanitation procedures or use of special equipment (e.g., large sweeper, power washers, buffers, floor scrubbers). 

-        May assist with preparing rooms for meetings by setting up chairs, tables, and necessary equipment.  

-        Perform building security duties such as locking and unlocking doors, checking windows, turning lights on or off, etc., and reporting items that need repair to the supervisor.

-        Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

Under direct supervision, receives oral and written instructions daily on work to be performed. The frequency of contact with the supervisor varies by work assignment.

No supervision is exercised.

Minimum Qualifications

 

§  Ability to read and write.

§  A valid driver's license may be required for certain positions.

§  Ability on a daily basis to:

o   Lift, carry, and set down objects of moderate weight (25-50 lbs.)

o   Grasp broom and mop handles

o   Work around dust and cleaning chemicals

o    Climb stairs, step stools, and ladders

Physical strength, coordination, and stamina sufficient to perform assigned duties.
