Shift:     As needed to fill day, evening, overnight and weekend positions. Rotates holidays.

Performs radiographic procedures in accordance with established professional and departmental standards and procedures.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill set, and/or ability required.

  1. Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  2. Must be licensed by the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (LSRTBE) and achieve certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) within 90 days of graduation. (Temporary work permit through LSRTBE acceptable; however permanent licensure and certification must be achieved within 90 days of graduation.)
  3. Completed American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  4. One year Radiologic Technologist experience to include clinical rotation in a hospital or diagnostic imaging center setting preferred.
  5. Ability to respond to and withstand frequent crisis situations.

Responsibilities:

d. Performs visual inspection of equipment, identifies problems and communicates to immediate supervisor.

e. Reviews physician orders, checking for special instructions from requesting physician, and consults with the radiologist as necessary.

g. Completely explains examination procedure to the patient and their family if present.

h. Ability to anticipate and meet the needs and expectations of customers.

i. Contact the Diagnostic Radiology Supervisor/Manager for equipment service issues as appropriate.

j. Participates in appropriate education and on-the-job learning situations in order to develop necessary job skills.

k. Demonstrates the ability to perform multiple tasks as required.

    2. Demonstrates a complete working knowledge of all equipment within the department.
    3. Performs all procedures. Demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and administers contrast media according to the department policy and procedure manual. Obtains patient history and clinical data for correlation with the scans.
    4. Maintains necessary inventory of supplies for assigned room, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items.
    5. Ensures all equipment is in good working condition.

a. Follows North Oaks Health Systems Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.

b. Performs all other duties as required or requested by the Manager or Director.

c. Responsible for his or her actions, and individually accountable for satisfied patients/customers, confidentiality or patient and hospital information, quality outcomes, efficient operations, and the overall success of North Oaks Health System.

d. Performs all routine radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures including surgical and portable examinations as assigned. Demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and administers contrast media according to the department policy and procedure manual. Obtains patient history and clinical data for correlation with the radiographs.

e. Develops exposed cassettes then returns cassettes to proper location. Reviews images for proper positioning, technique and identification.

f. Accountable for attending staff meetings, Complies with wearing of Hospital Identification badge as instructed, knows appropriate use of breaks and mealtimes, keeps up with Organizational and Departmental Regulator Compliance (OSHA, JCAHO, HCFA, OIG, etc…), Competencies, Policies and Procedures, Work area Cleanliness.

g. Has completed all mandatory classes in the past calendar year. Has completed all in-services relating to their position. Participates in continuing education activities.

h. Assists in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers and radiographic tables.

i. Maintains necessary inventory of supplies for assigned room, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items.
