Job Description

The Business Operations Manager will report to the Assistant Director of Administration and Finance in the Pamplin College of Business and will be part of the college financial management team. The position will assist with managing the daily operations of the college Business Service Center, prepare and analyze financial reports, track data, approve wage payroll actions, enter faculty payroll actions and approve all Hokiemart purchases for the Dean of Business and centralized departments and centers.  This position will also serve as the financial manager for various centralized units and departments; including serving as the primary point of contact for Directors and program managers.   This position will process  payroll transactions, budget transfers, reconciliations and other related responsivities. Other responsibilities include creating adhoc financial reports, researching and solving problems and other types of financial analysis and report generation.  

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business field and  extensive experience directly related to financial management and reporting. Experience in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and ability to learn other software as needed; ability to work collaboratively and confidentially.  Ability to apply policies and procedures; communication and interpersonal skills with attention to detail and accuracy;  Ability to, confirm and analyze information in order to develop sound recommendations for resource allocations.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in business, accounting, or related field.  Experience with financial, student, and personnel management systems and procedures specific to Virginia Tech, such as Banner and VTF Banner (finance and HR), HokieMart, Timeclock Plus, TEM, Depart, leave system, CashNet, Online I-9 system, Micro-strategies.  Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the preparation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of budgets.  Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
