Primarily responsible for supporting network administrators in resolving end user service issues along with day-to-day management and maintenance of the wired and wireless network environment.  Participates in the design and implementation of new networking services, implementing change requests, and execution of project based work.  Assists in the development and strategy of the network infrastructure through system monitoring, maintenance, and system upgrades. 

 

Essential Duties:

 

  • Timely responds to Help Desk Trouble Tickets and handles related issues.
  • Assists with resolution of end user workstation issues.
  • Troubleshoots Layer2/Layer3 issues and VPN Client connectivity issues.
  • Performs user provisioning and troubleshooting using Cisco ACS.
  • Validates wireless coverage and signal strength and provide site RF survey’s as needed.
  • Maintains and utilizes knowledge and experience with QoS.
  • Configures and administers Microsoft DHCP, DNS and WINS, Cisco ACS and Cisco Network Devices.
  • Orders, tests, and troubleshoots network circuits (T1, Frame Relay, Metro Ethernet). 
  • Proficient use of protocol analyzers and network sniffers to diagnose and troubleshoot operational issues.
  • Open Cisco TAC cases and work issues through to resolution.
  • Participates in on-call service rotation; provides 24 x 7 production support on a rotating basis. Performs occasional night/weekend work as assigned.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Minimum 2 year of experience with Cisco Powered Network infrastructure, including design, implementation, and ongoing management and troubleshooting required.
  • Wireless Administrative experience with WindowsXP required.
  • Understanding of layer 2 network protocols (VTP, DTP, VLANs) and layer 3 protocols (TCP/IP, EIGRP, OSPF) required.
  • Experience with designing and implementing layer2 networks, capable of troubleshooting layer 3 networks. 
  • Hands on experience working with Cisco Wireless LAN controllers, WiSM, MSE and NCS required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft DHCP, DNS, WINS, Cisco DHCP required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Layer2 protocols required.
  • Must be familiar with Layer 3 routing protocols (Static, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP).

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Information Technology preferred.

Preferred Credentials, Licensure or Certification (i.e. RN, RRT):

  • Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA)
  • Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP)
