Regular Days Off: Saturday and Sunday
Supervision Received: The VP reports to the President of Westfield State University.
Supervision Exercised: The VP directly supervises the Directors of Admission, Financial Aid, Career Center, Public Safety, and the Dean of Students. Additionally, the VP provides indirect oversight of the following departments and functions: Counseling Center, Health Services, Public Safety, Residential Life, Student Conduct, Student Government, and Wellness Center.

General Statement of Duties: The President of Westfield State University invites a dynamic, thoughtful, and innovative leader to join the leadership team. Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for Enrollment & Student Affairs will play a critical role in advancing the institutional strategic initiatives, vision, culture, and values. As a member of the President's Cabinet, the VP will provide system-wide strategic visionary leadership and foster a culture of inclusion, engagement, and belonging that inspires students, faculty, and staff to flourish. Within the scope of the Vice President's leadership are collaborative, campus-wide efforts to develop, facilitate the adoption, evaluate, and refine plans, policies, and procedures in support of institutional and divisional goals for enrollment and student affairs.

The Vice President provides strategic leadership for the identification, adoption, and advancement of enrollment goals by student type and academic program while building a shared sense of accountability for enrollment across departments. Additionally, the Vice President oversees, directs, and manages, in collaboration with the Dean of Students, the overall excellence of the University's Student Affairs programs. In demonstrating accountability for Student Affairs, the VP takes a fully coordinated approach to supporting students and their success across the student services and engagement portfolio for the purpose of optimizing access, retention, and success.

Enrollment Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic leadership and direction to the University in all facets of the establishment of institutional initiatives related to enrollment management.
  • Ensures that all programs and initiatives are integrated and effective in advancing the overall mission, culture, values, and goals of the institution as featured in the University's 2019 - 2024 Strategic Plan.
  • Directs and oversees the establishment, development, and enhancement of divisional operations and services to internal and external constituencies.
  • Works collaboratively with key stakeholders campus-wide to develop, implement, and communicate a comprehensive strategic enrollment management and student engagement plan including associated initiatives and activities, policies and procedures, and standards and measures at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Develops recruitment and admission initiatives responsive to the University's aspirational values regarding educational excellence and access while reinforcing a campus culture in which students of diverse identities, abilities, cultural heritages, and lived experiences experience belonging.
  • Serve as an advisor, steward, and spokesperson for the President's relevant initiatives.  Make personal appearances and presentations to various media, organizations, educational and corporate entities, and major donors.
  • Create public awareness of, and interest in, the University toward the goal of extending its positive image.  Foster strong relationships with key institutions, individuals, community colleges, and stakeholders to enhance the University's impact.
  • Develops and administers the department budget subject to strict fiscal budgetary discipline.  Monitor grant budgets and grantee expenditures.  Maximize net revenues for earned income programs and activities.
  • Ensures that institutional financial aid resources meet the needs of new, continuing, international, and graduate students.
  • Ensures that all admission and financial aid operations are conducted in accordance with state and federal regulations and procedures.
  • Oversees the collection and analytics of data and interprets statistical reports for use by the University, Department of Higher Education, and other educational agencies.
  • Establish and maintain a strong, effective partnership with Board members to foster a culture of collaboration and consultation.  Prepare materials for the Board of Trustees.
  • In partnership with Marketing and Communication, develop marketing and communication materials and strategies for the Departments of Enrollment and Financial Aid.
  • In partnership with Information Technology, work to implement technology solutions and data driven approaches in higher education that positively impact enrollment and engagement.

Student Affairs Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for Student Affairs as well as promotes initiatives that enable the delivery of effective and quality service to students.
  • Delivers professional development and information in support of student success and retention.
  • Oversees the preparation and direction of the Student Affairs' section of the divisional budget.
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere that promotes the cultural, social, and professional development of students while enhancing the academic environment.
  • Oversees the development of policies and procedures to encourage student governance through the Student Government.
  • Oversees the development and or advancement of a system for the administration of student conduct (with requisite standards) including the management of students living in residence hall facilities and in certain situations off-campus.
  • Oversees the planning and developing of new student orientation programs, thereby facilitating students' transitions as new members of the University's vibrant community.
  • Oversees the continued development and implementation of the coordination of a records system for the division of student affairs, providing output to various campus constituents as needed.
  • In partnership with Marketing and Communication, develop various print and digital materials and strategies to support Student Affairs.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree
  • Substantial and progressive higher education leadership in enrollment management with demonstrated success, and substantial oversight experience of student affairs functions.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion including demonstrable experience in supporting a diverse student population and fostering a multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or other terminal degree
  • Experience working within a state system of higher education.
  • Bilingual language proficiency
  • A priority will be given to candidates who have ten years of successful experience and leadership in higher education administration including budgetary responsibilities, supervision and evaluation of personnel, strategic planning, enrollment management, student affairs programing development, and shared governance.
  • A thorough understanding of the complexities of higher education and associated regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing strong partnerships and educational delivery models within higher education.
  • Innovative application of current and emerging technologies in support of student recruitment, enrollment, engagement, and retention.
  • A proven record of enhancing the quality of life for students in and out of the classroom by working creatively and effectively with students.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully apply theories of student development, student engagement, student success and career development.
  • Proven ability to develop strategic plans that enhance the revenue generation to the University.
  • A record of dynamic, collaborative, proactive, visionary and ethical leadership.
  • Excellent intercultural, communication, management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
