DESCRIPTION: The Office of Consumer Advocates, Inc. (OCA, Inc) Peer Advocate works on a 1:1 basis with individuals to achieve or maintain their self-defined wellness and recovery goals by establishing connections with community resources. All services are time limited and designed to promote autonomy while building a supportive network. 

Duties will include:

  • Scheduling & conducting outreach opportunities to build program awareness
  • Working with individuals to Identify and prioritize goals to increase functioning and self-sufficiency
  • Being aware of and able to assist individuals with utilizing community resources, including natural and peer supports at OCA, Inc. and community supports
  • Providing opportunities to secure employment and involvement in work training programs
  • Providing transportation to appointments related to developed plan whenever possible
  • Educate those willing to pursue Certified Peer Recovery Certification (CPRS) on the process of certification
  • Shared decision‐making
  • Lifestyle change reinforcement that includes stress management, relaxation techniques, assertiveness training, spiritual practices, and conflict resolution.
  • Assist in processes to obtain housing, employment, childcare, legal assistance, and public benefits
  • Documentation of all services and contacts; writing skills regarding clear and concise documentation
  • Willingness to become a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS)\
  • Ability to lift 40 to 50 pounds
  • Meal preparation (if applicable)
  • Other duties as assigned

A minimum of 20 – 40 hours weekly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Graduate 

Required: Lived personal experience overcoming various life challenges and currently at a point in own recovery to how assist others in a professional capacity. Valid driver’s license, state and federal background checks, dependable work history with available references, and ability to fulfill all other hiring documentation including evidence of ability to work in the U.S. Own vehicle preferred.
