Position Summary
Southeast Community College formerly New Mexico State University Carlsbad is seeking
applications for a full-time tenure track position in Digital Media. The accepted job candidate will
teach courses in foundational graphic design, 2D and 3D animation, digital illustration, art history
and theory, and studio art classes such as painting, drawing, photography, and sketching.


Requirements for the Position:
Will be assigned to teach on a 9-month contract of 15 credit hours per semester. Carries out a 5/5
teaching load of 100 and 200-level classes. Holds regular office hours in accordance with the
policies established in the Faculty Manual. Delivers class instruction that supports the Digital
Media program’s learning objectives. Provides a classroom environment conducive to fostering
creativity and innovation. Collaborates with the local high schools to develop and solidify the
Digital Media dual credit and early college programs. Evaluates student performance and
instructional methods using the college’s established system of assessment. Serves as a member
of the college’s various governance committees and task forces to promote
institutional/instructional efficiency and support a culture of learning. Develops and revises
curricula for the digital media program. Collaborates with other departments in regard to
interdisciplinary projects, campus events, and instructional training. Attends scheduled faculty
meetings, department meetings, required training, and committee meetings. Contributes to the
development of the Digital Media program through participation in student recruitment activities,
promotion of program-related events, and revision of course competencies. Keeps up to date on
trends and changes in media technologies. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be willing to
live in Carlsbad, New Mexico, or the surrounding area close enough to commute.


Required Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge in the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and
After Effects. Knowledge in foundational contemporary art and design practices such as
typography, color theory, layout design, motion graphics, storyboarding, and drawing. Excellent
communication skills. Experience in participating in scholarly digital media research and/or
portfolio development activities (art shows, internships, publications, etc.) Documented evidence
of technical and theoretical skills (portfolio, industry experience, art exhibitions, etc.) Knowledge
in Autodesk Maya.


Preferred Qualifications (optional)
At least three years of industry experience working in visual development, animation, graphic
design, illustration, or other related field. Experience in teaching in the digital arts, Experience in
teaching dual credit and non-traditional adult students. Experience working with ethnically
diverse and rural student populations. Knowledge in HTML/CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and other web
development languages. Knowledge in interactive technologies such as Flash, Dreamweaver, C++,
and Java. Familiarity in time-based media technologies, such as video and film.
