POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides physical therapy services under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist to patients across the age continuum. Assists the physical therapist within established guidelines to develop a rehabilitative plan of care with realistic goals, based on a functional evaluation or reassessment. Provides education to patients, family members, students, staff and to the community at large. Coordinates services with other medical disciplines, making recommendations as appropriate to facilitate a complete rehabilitative process. Participates in Performance Improvement and Risk Management.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

Graduate of Physical Therapy Assistant Program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association. Currently certified or eligible for certification by the State of New York.

Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. Demonstrates age specific competency annually on age populations served as identified in scope of care and services.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong time management skills. BLS for Health Care Providers preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Clinical setting. Exposure Class I – routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions or secretions. Risk of communicable diseases and risk of physical injury.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Heavy work: continual and repetitive motions, including but not limited to heavy lifting, bending, stooping, twisting, pushing, pulling, climbing and prolonged walking and standing.
