Job Description:

Campus Title: Part-Time Library Assistant, Technical Services

Funding: Contracted
Job Type: Part-Time
Timeframe: 51 weeks
Shift: Flexible hours to be set, 15 hours a week
Supervision Received: This position will report to the Head of Library Collections and Content. 
Supervision Exercised: None.
Salary: $18.50/Hour 

General Statement of Duties: The Part-Time Technical Services Library Assistant assists with acquisition, cataloging and technical processing of print and digital library materials and monitors and coordinates acquisition of Technical Services supplies. This work includes placing orders in multiple online systems and communicating with library staff regarding status of orders.  The Part-Time Library Assistant participates in print and electronic collection management projects, including holdings maintenance, weeding, collection report creation and retrieval, binding preparation, basic repair, and physical stacks management projects as assigned.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Ability to work diligently and independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar online systems and follow written workflows and operating procedures for those systems
  • Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple ongoing projects with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and push/pull carts full of books.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree or coursework in library science strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with MARC standards or experience copy cataloging
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or a similar spreadsheet application 
  • Experience with automated library systems
  • Experience managing or monitoring budgets


Additional Information:

Salary:
For the majority of new employees, the minimum starting salary will apply. Specific salary for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining and state policies and procedures.

Covid-19 Requirements:

As a condition of employment, you will be required to complete an initial series of COVID vaccination (2 doses of Pfizer/Moderna or 1 dose of J&J) prior to coming to campus.
