Ohio University is currently accepting applications for Police Officer to create an Eligibility List that will be used to fill approved vacancies throughout the next year.

NEW HIRES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A SIGN ON BONUS OF $5,000.00

TO BE CONSIDERED IN THE APPLICANT POOL, ALL APPLICANTS MUST APPLY TO THIS POSTING AND PASS THE WRITTEN TEST. WRITTEN TESTING WILL BE CONDUCTED ONLINE BY THE NATIONAL TESTING NETWORK AND ALL APPLICANTS MUST APPLY ONLINE TO TAKE THE WRITTEN TEST AT: WWW.NATIONALTESTINGNETWORK.COM. NATIONAL TESTING NETWORK WILL AVERAGE THE 3 SECTIONS OF THE TEST AND APPLICANTS MUST RECEIVE AN AVERAGE SCORE OF 70 TO PASS.

ALL OPOTA CERTIFIED APPLICANTS WHO REGISTER, TAKE, AND PASS THE WRITTEN TEST WILL BE INVITED TO INTERVIEW.

ALL NON OPOTA CERTIFIED APPLICANTS WHO REGISTER, TAKE AND PASS THE WRITTEN TEST WILL BE CONTACTED TO SCHEDULE FITNESS TESTING WHICH WILL BE CONDUCTED ON THE ATHENS CAMPUS OF OHIO UNIVERSITY.

Our primary means of communication with applicants will be via email. Please be sure the email address entered on the application is a valid email address that is monitored regularly.

Applicants who will possess OPOTA certification by the fitness testing date (which is to be determined) must submit a copy to The Ohio University Police Department in order to be exempt from the physical fitness component of testing.

Applicants who have completed an Ohio basic academy but do not have an OPOTA certification/letter in hand by the fitness testing date will be required to complete and successfully pass the physical fitness portion of testing.

Applicants who have not completed an Ohio basic academy and do not possess OPOTA certification will be required to complete and successfully pass the physical fitness portion of testing.

ALL applicants will be required to successfully complete the written portion of the test.

Job Description
Under general supervision, patrols grounds and buildings to protect lives and property, prevent crimes and enforce laws, investigate crimes. Carries firearms and/or makes arrests and testifies in court. Makes police presentations to groups and organizations.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must possess current Ohio Police Officer Training Academy Certificate OR must obtain certification in accordance with guidelines established by the Chief.
• High School diploma or its equivalency required
• Valid driver’s license required
• Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and successfully complete a written and physical fitness examination to be eligible for additional consideration
• Finalists will be required to undergo a psychological test, a polygraph, and a comprehensive background investigation
• Applicants must possess the basic skills of reading, writing and math competencies
• Successful applicants must meet Occupational Health Medical standards for the position and classification

Current pay for uncertified recruits while attending basic academy training is $21.95 Current starting pay for certified police officers ranges from $25.82 to $34.31, depending on education and experience. NEW HIRES ELIGIBLE FOR SIGNING BONUS OF $5,000.00
