Statewide Labor Union seeks an individual to fill the position of Organizer.  The Organizer position will provide support for all aspects of internal organizing campaigns, including building relationships with workers, developing issue based organizing plans, increasing and sustaining motivation of statewide and local chapter committees and activists and building local and statewide coalitions.

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

 

  • Organize Bargaining unit members, identify workplace issues and member interests.
  • Participate in contract negotiations coordinated campaigns.
  • Implement statewide and chapter internal organizing campaigns.
  • Plan, mobilize and turn out members for union actions and events.
  • Coordinate and execute membership drives.
  • Conduct one-on-one chapter visits and member-led meetings, events, and actions.
  • Utilize membership database to maintain accurate and detailed member and campaign information and reports.
  • Effectively communicate and engage members in union political programs and activities.
  • Work with statewide committees to move issues into actions. 
  • Build up statewide and local community coalitions/partners. 

 

A strong candidate will have:  

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience preferred; Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of full-time work experience in organizing, policy, advocacy, or an equivalent combination of education & experience required. 
  • Experience as a political or internal organizer. 
  • Experience working with public sector unions. 
  • Experience with higher education and/or hospitals.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated success developing and advancing mobilization strategies or issue-based campaigns.
  • Experience building meaningful relationships with a variety of constituencies (labor, political, and community).
  • Ability to implement audience-specific engagement plans.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills.

 

Requirements 

  • Ability to travel throughout New York State. 
  • Driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and similar software.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technological systems. 

 

 

This Management Confidential position is an on-site position in Latham, NY.
