Salary Range: $30,000 to $35,000
Nature of Work: An employee in this position is responsible for operating a tractor trailer or other delivery vehicle on assigned routes to deliver food to schools in the state; and participating in related warehousing activities.
Examples of Work:
- Drives a tractor trailer or other assigned vehicle for the delivery of commodities to USDA Foods recipient agencies.
- Performs routine maintenance of assigned vehicle.
- Maintains mileage, maintenance, repair and delivery records on assigned vehicle.
- Assists in loading and unloading of commodity foods as necessary.
- Performs routine functional maintenance of equipment as necessary and/or informs Warehouse Manager of need for maintenance.
- Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of assigned vehicle.
- Performs inventory control measures during loading and unloading operations.
- Utilizes established reporting methods and forms to inform Warehouse Manager of damages, overages or shortages upon return from scheduled deliveries.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions: Standing, sitting, walking, driving for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs., operating warehousing machinery, outside work and exposure to inclement weather.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of proper operation of a tractor trailer or other delivery vehicle.
- Knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and equipment used in delivery driver and warehousing operations.
- Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing driving, including those specific to tractor trailers.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and related safety procedures.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance methods and procedures.
- Ability to safely operate tools and equipment used in routine delivery driver and warehousing operations.
- Ability to determine materials needed for specific tasks.
- Ability to perform arduous tasks.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently or in a team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
- Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience driving a tractor trailer working in a distribution environment preferred.
- Substitution: Specialized driving training may be substituted for one year of preferred experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a driving record in compliance with established Federal and State laws and WVDA policies.
- Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
- Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
- Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and the State of West Virginia.
