Summary: 

Under the direction of the Manager of Sterile Processing, and Director of Surgical Services the Education and Onboarding Coordinator is responsible for performing a full range of tasks to monitor and ensure excellence in new hire training and continued competency of Sterile Processing staff. The Education and Onboarding coordinator will assess develop, plan and implement departmental in services, orientation and ongoing training in all Sterile Processing procedures and processes. The coordinator provides both verbal and written evaluation feedback. Accountable for professionalism, leadership, personal professional development, environmental and safety management. Knowledgeable in regulatory requirements and professional organizational standards.

Job Responsibilities: 

1) The Education Onboarding Coordinator ensures the competence of staff through direct observation, interaction, ongoing evaluation of quality, patient outcomes and feedback from other healthcare team members.

2) Responsible for daily oversight of the pre-boarding and onboarding process

3) Develops, plans and implements department wide in-services. Conducts specialized and/or specific training for staff across SPD in collaboration with OR supervisors & SPD coordinators.

4) Analyzes departmental quality assurance results and develops appropriate training to improve performance. Conducts monthly monitoring and coaches for improved metrics. Provides constructive feedback to improve performance. Collaborates with manager to identify any deficiencies in skills and creates developmental plans

5) Participates in the collaborative development and maintenance of departmental policies, procedures and standards with the department manager and interdisciplinary resources to ensure best practices are followed and are current.

6) In collaboration with SPD and Surgical Services leadership, monitors all sterilization equipment and ensures the appropriate sterilization methods/cycles are performed in accordance to instrument manufacturer's instructions for use.

7) The Educator Onboarding Coordinator exhibits leadership skills which promote the philosophy, core values, vision and operating principles and applies in sterile instrument processing everyday practice. Provides staff with honest direct constructive feedback.

8) Utilizes knowledge of accredidation standards, regulatory, safety, infection control, new technologies and operating methods to incorporate into policies and procedures for process improvement

9) Provides ideas and or strategies for process change and supports leadership with change implementation. Continues facilitation of process changes through coaching and observation.

10) Acts as mentor and resource to more junior members of Sterile Processing team.

11) Demonstrates leadership skills by establishing work priorities, organizing and assessing work activities, utilizing critical thinking and effectively communicating to interdisciplinary team members.

12) Maintains knowledge of computer based programs as required for department and training.

Required Work Experience: 

1) 5 years in sterilization practices/processing

Preferred Work Experience: 

1) 3 years in leadership role

2)  Education and teacing skills in staff developent and competency verification

3)  Active participation on professional organizations, IAHCSMM, CBSPD
