Purpose of Announcement

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY AND TWO (2) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES ALL IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JEFFERSON COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM.

This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Departments as they occur.

Kind of Work

Under the general supervision of the Health Coordinator, the purpose of this position is to provide non-invasive medical services to the HS B-5 Program children and the staff. Employees in this classification provide for the care, treatment and general welfare of children, provide administrative support to services of the HS B-5 Program, and assist the Health Coordinator in meeting the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards and perform related work as directed. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.  Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.  

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Possession of a current license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Louisiana.
 
Note: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing is acceptable.

NOTE: Must be able to pass a state background check with no felony or misdemeanor convictions. Any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (Louisiana R.S. 15:587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.

Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.

dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.

Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.

Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.

Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.


Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678.

Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
