POSITION:   12 Month CSEA Civil Service competitive position as a Systems Administrator in the Technology Department.  *This is a provisional probationary appointment pending the results of the civil service exam.                           

DESCRIPTION:                

Works under the direction of the Director of Technology - provides primary support to district Instructional staff members, Faculty staff members, and transportation computing and networking needs on the local area network.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implementation and management of Vsphere virtual software environment and Vxrail hardware, and support including: updating/patching the VM environment, able to work with 3rd party tech support on issues as needed.
  • Skilled in configuring,utilizing and troubleshooting backend Administrative systems including but not limited to: Virtual and physical Microsoft Windows Servers, Automated software update services, Print management, Internet filtering, Wireless networks, Data backup, Remote desktop and inventory software, Data loss prevention software, Surveillance and access control softwares, Apple mobile device management system. The preferred candidate will have deployed, and managed: Windows Server 2016, WSUS, Ninite, Papercut, Hapara, Veam, Amazon Remote Web Services, Senso, Lansweeper,Observium, Ruckus Networks, SysCloud, and Motorola surveillance and access controls and Lightspeed Mdm admin panel.
  • Skilled manager of Google, and  Active Directory computer and chromebook computing environments including: setting software and hardware security policies, updates, utilizing group policy modeling for testing policies before deployment. Candidate.  The preferred candidate will have achieved certifications in Google and Microsoft and/or Comptia.
  • Assist the Director of Technology in maintaining the integrity of the network by installing, upgrading, and maintaining network switches, routers, wireless network controllers, and Voip phone services. The preferred candidate will be versed in applying two factor authentication access to provide secure access to servers, remote access VPN clients and all district staff and faculty data. The preferred candidate will be adept at editing, and configuring brocade switches and routers for vlan and wlan ports, as well as adding new routing networks when needed. The candidate will  be capable of operating protocol analyzers, and network softwares to pull reports and data logs to gain a deeper understanding for investigating, and solving network problems. Works assisting district contractors to resolve network and wired/wireless infrastructures. 
  • Helps to ensure the availability of computer resources in classrooms and offices by assisting with troubleshooting, disaster prevention and recovery efforts caused by events like power outages, hardware failures, hardware movement etc. The ideal candidate will have experience deploying/ managing Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and multisim engineering software computer lab, as well as experience managing an Apple iMac adobe creative cloud graphic arts lab. Experience working/troubleshooting education specific peripherals such as SMART Interactive TV’s, Jamboards, chromecast and Airtame and Cisco IP phones is a plus
  • Familiar with backend configuration of computers and chromebooks for administering State, and private computer based testing software such as Questar, Kite and NWEA.
  • Utilizes network software to assist the Technology Director in maintaining a current inventory list of district owned hardware and softwares, as well as updating district network clients and servers. Preferred candidate will have specific familiarity with: WSUS, Ninite, Lansweeper and Observium.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the Director of Technology
  • Works with the Director of Technology to protect all confidential data stored on District Servers and end user devices. Preferred candidate will be knowledgeable with ED Law 2d, and NIST Cybersecurity standards
  • Skilled in managing, and monitoring Antivirus/Antimalware software. Preferred candidate will have experience managing/monitoring Cisco Umbrella, AMP, DUO and Darktrace softwares to detect network conditions requiring immediate response,  corrective action or performance tuning.
  • Schedules and coordinates backup and restoration of District data. Preferred candidate will have some level of familiarity with the Trustifi  inbound/outbound email security software program. Knowledge of: attachment encryption, tracking of confidential data and spam management is ideal.

Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

The ability to follow technical instructions, both verbal and written is required. The ability to solve network-related problems by using diagnostic techniques and protocols is required. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. The ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to information processed, stored, or accessed by the networks is required. A thorough understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP and networking equipment including routers, switches, and wireless systems is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Familiarity with backbone and Wide Area networking (WAN) components, wiring infrastructures, VPNs, Layer 2 and 3 networking protocols, multicast, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, IP address management and network monitoring software is necessary. The preferred candidate will have passed the Civil Service Network Analyst designation.

QUALIFICATIONS:     

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science, Data Processing, Computer Science, Electronics or related field; 

OR

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Information Science, Data Processing, Computer Science, Electronics or related field  and two years of experience in the operation of a mainframe and/or micro computer equipment which shall have involved coordination and training of software applications; 

OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of the above.

SALARY:                                $65K - $75K
