Introduction

The constitutional and statutory provisions relating to the Office of the State Treasurer can be found in Articles I, III, V, VI, and XII of the Maryland Constitution; Title 5 of the State Government Article; and Titles 2 and 6-9 of the State Finance and Procurement Article. 


Specifically, the Treasurer's Office is responsible for administering the State Insurance Program of purchased insurance and self-insurance including coverage of the State's liability under the Maryland Tort Claims Act.

Annapolis, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the Casualty Claims Adjuster Associate II is to act as a front-line claims personnel. This individual is responsible for determining if all new claims received meet the strict Notice of Claim requirements under the Maryland Tort Claim Act, setting up claims, assigning to staff and entering claims into the Insurance Division database. This position performs the preliminary investigation on “Non-State” claims(s), Incomplete claims(s), and 1st Party property and 3rd party auto damage claims in order to contact appropriate party(s), obtain the additional information required, and ensure that all information is sufficient to process the claim. This position also investigates and handles assigned 1st party auto damage claims and 3rd party liability claims that are not represented by counsel and do not involve bodily injury.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high chool equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience in processing claims or providing customer services.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One of the required years of experience must be in an insurance environment providing customer services to claimants.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  • Knowledge of the Maryland Tort Claims Act and/or other local government tort claims act
  • Experience with claims payment processing
  • Experience with self-insurance
  • Experience with commercial insurance
  • Insurance industry designation or related course work

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Candidates must be willing to work in the Annapolis area.  

SELECTION PROCESS

SELECTION PROCESS:  Applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications will be admitted to examination for this classification.  Successful candidates passing the examination will be ranked as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED and placed on the employment (eligible) list for one year.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

EXAMINATION:  The examination may consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience related to the requirements of the position.  You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Report all experience and education that is related to this position.
