This position is key to leading Legacy Manufacturing in expanding capabilities into in-house hose extrusion.   It will assist operations department through responsibility for the flexible PVC extrusion lines and ancillary equipment.  Identify and follow through on opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and output of the extrusion lines. Develop and deliver reports on extrusion line performance to management.  Identify maintenance necessities to keep lines running without disruption. Support quality assurance with incoming material inspection.

 

Responsibilities (major functions and accountabilities)

  • Specify new extrusion and ancillary equipment to fulfill production goals
  • Supervise installation and set up of extrusion operation equipment
  • Monitor extrusion equipment performance and identify service needs
  • Work with other departments to identify and develop new hose extrusion products
  • Establish and follow regular maintenance plans
  • Train operators on use of extrusion equipment
  • Monitor and adjust equipment for optimal quality and efficiency
  • Analyze incoming material using melt-flow index and torque rheometry

 

Job Qualifications (education, formal training, skills and experience required)

  • Must have 5+ years’ experience with thermoplastic extrusion manufacturing equipment and knowledge of thermoplastic materials used in extrusion.
  • Familiarity with flexible PVC extrusion, co-extrusion, polymer compounding, plastics, color & functional master batch processes a plus
  • Familiarity with lab equipment used to evaluate materials, experience with melt flow index and torque rheometer material analysis preferred
  • Minimum 2-year associates degree with emphasis in engineering sciences with five years of field experience required.  Bachelor of Science in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or material science preferred.
  • Must have a continuous improvement mindset
  • Familiar with CAD software: Solidworks, Solidworks Enterprise PDM, etc.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze blueprints and schematics
  • Experience writing and following manufacturing procedures
  • Proficient with MS Office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Work well in cross functional team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-starter and ability to complete projects with little supervision
  • Creative problem solving
  • Work well in cross functional team environment
