Summary: 

Performs various patient care duties, clerical activities and cleaning duties in the delivery of high quality care to children through adults.  Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

Contributes to patient safety by:

a. Providing a safe environment for patients.

b. Reporting safety concerns, errors and near misses.

c. Participating in system improvement initiatives to prevent errors.

d. Providing evidence-based care as applicable to the role.

2. Escorts patients and prepares patient for procedures. Chaperons and/or assists patients and physicians during examinations and routine procedures.

3. Obtains vital signs and blood glucose levels, documents pain, and executes nutritional screens per protocols.

4. Sets up and collects labels for specimens; may perform CLIA approved tests according to defined competencies.

5. Cleans exam rooms/procedure rooms after patient treatment.

6. Maintains, cleans, and sterilizes instruments and clinical equipment according to accepted system protocols; contacts outside service representatives as appropriate.

7. Maintains stock of supplies and instruments in treatment areas; orders clinical and non-clinical supplies.

8. Performs errands such as picking up supplies, transporting/delivering specimens, and escorting patients to care areas.

9. Participates in patient discharge by reinforcing patient education and providing teaching materials as indicated by the provider or nurse.

10. Assists with sterile procedures including but not limited to wound care (i.e. removing dressings, washing and rinsing wounds, etc.); participates in the application of dressing(s) utilizing sterile techniques and specialized skin care procedures; assists with cystoscopies and sigmoidoscopies.

11. Adheres to sterile technique standards and universal precautions related to the safe handling of hazardous infectious waste as well as bodily substance precautions.

12. Schedules follows up appointment and registers patients as assigned.

13. Wears personal protective equipment as appropriate.

14. Maintains efficient patient flows through the clinic.

15. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Required:
HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program Have and maintain BLS Certification from the AHA One year of full-time experience (or a minimum of 2000 hours of experience in a part-time capacity) in patient care working in a surgical setting or surgical practice office (not including externship). Good interpersonal skills Demonstrates good judgment, flexibility, initiative, and has the ability to problem solve.

Preferred:
NonePhysical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance. Ability to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids. Requires some exposure to chemicals and cleaning products.
