Job Description Summary
To facilitate communication via interpreting all information between the instructor and the hard of hearing and/or deaf student. Knowledge of deaf culture and cultural norms is expected.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Documentation of skill level and/or certification in using American Sign Language(ASL).
  2. Interpreting experience at the high school and/or college level.
Criteria
CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process. Please ensure that your application and attached documents address the criteria listed below:

  1. Extent of experience interpreting at the college level.
  2. Evidence of an understanding of deaf culture and cultural norms.
Job Requirements
  1. Must be available to work during the Spring/Summer/Fall semester.
  2. Must be available to work flexible daytime and/or evening hours.
  3. Must be willing to work on the Largo campus and at all extension centers.
  4. Must be dependable and responsible.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  6. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
