This is a full time temporary seasonal position from October 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.

Job order placed in connection with an H-2B Labor Certification. H2B jobs are posted to actively recruit qualified, available workers that are currently eligible to work in the United States, per federal regulations. Job Description:

Commercial tree planting will be conducted on steep terrain; 40%-60% in slope and done with the use of a planting shovel. The employee willclear a space on the ground, dig a hole, correctly place the seedling tree in the hole, cover the roots with the soil, and then tamp the soil around the newly planted seedling. The employee will be required to carry a planting bag which will contain the seedlings, combined weight is about 50-60 pounds, depending on the size of the seedlings, up and down the steep terrain in remote mountainous areas.

Pre-commercial Thinning:

Cutting of undesirable and diseased trees. Spraying vegetation to eliminate unwanted underbrush. Brush cutting/piling and the cutting of limbs of the commercial timber will be conducted in order to promote the growth of the standing timber. Tree limbs cut and brush will be piled in a prescribed manner for future disposal. The thinning will be conducted with the use of a chainsaw. Employees are expected to maintain the saw, sharpen the chain in the field, maintain correct fluid levels, and properly break the saw down for cleaning. The combined weight of the saw, fuel and oil is approximately 30 lbs and must be carried up and down difficult terrain ranging from 40%-60% in slope. The employee must demonstrate that he can work in a safe and effective manner. Access is gained to these remote areas by traveling on abandoned, unnamed or numbered, logging roads that are maintained.

Job Requirements:

Requirements: 3 months experience performing commercial tree planting and/or pre-commercial thinning. Must be available to work in each of the counties named and complete the entire season. No education requirements are needed, training available if needed. Resume showing 3 months experience needed at time of interview. Transportation provided by the company to and from the worksites at no expense to the employee. Work will be performed in the following counties:

Washington State: Lewis, Chelan, Jefferson, Wahkiakum, King, Kitsap, Skamania, , Okanogan, Pierce, Thurston, Ferry, Stevens, Spokane, Cowlitz, Pacific, Grays Harbor, Mason, Pend Oreille, Kittitas, Clark, Skagit, Klickitat, Clallam, Snohomish, Whatcom.

State of Oregon: Columbia, Union, Clackamas, Washington, Douglas, Lane, Benton, Clatsop, Linn, Lincoln, Deschutes, Grant, Hood River, Marion, Tillamook, Umatilla, Wallowa, Baker, Jefferson, Yamhill, Polk, Multnomah. STATE OF IDAHO: Clearwater, Latah, Shoshone, Benewah, Kootenai, Boundary, Bonner, Nez Perce, Lewis. The majority of the work will require departure from Chehalis, WA When required, hotel accommodations are provided by the company at no cost to the employee when work is conducted outside of the normal commuting area of Lewis county.

Must be able to plant the following number of trees in an 8 hour day: by end of 1st week - 800, by end of 2nd week - 900, by end of 3rd week - 1000 trees.

Hours/days/schedule: Hours: 40 hours a week, 7 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime is expected. The company guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least 3/4 of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period.

Salary/wage/benefits: Wage ranges from $12.78 to $20.85 per hour, depending in which county work is performed. Should there be any overtime for the week, it will be paid at the 1.5 rate of the county where the work is performed, (ranging from $ 19.17 to $31.28 respectively). The company will use a single workweek as its standard for computing wages due. Workers are paid every two (2) weeks. The company will make all deductions from the worker's paycheck required by law. If the prevailing wage is increased by the U.S. Department of Labor during the course of the season, the employee's wage will increase accordingly. The company will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies and equipment required to perform the job, as per 20CFR655.20(k). If relocation is required by a worker who is hired, who does not reside in the area of employment, whether in the U.S. or abroad, travel expenses and subsistence will be paid to each worker by the company based on what is specified under 655.173 transportation (including meals, at least $12.68 a day, not to exceed $55.00 a day and, to the extent necessary, lodging, not to exceed $100.00 a night, receipts required), from their current abode to the place of employment, Lewis County, WA, if the worker completes 50% of the employment period covered by the job order, which is consistent with 20CFR655.20(j)(1)(i). Payment of said expenses and subsistence will be paid within 3 days after the completion of the 50% of the contract period by check, paid to the worker. The employer will assist in helping locate optional housing which is paid by the employee in the Lewis County Area. Mt. St. Helens Reforestation will reimburse the H-2B worker in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing and other related fees, including those mandated by the government, incurred by the H-2B worker. The company will pay return transportation and daily subsistence to the area from which the worker left from in order to take this job when the worker completes the employment period or is dismissed from employment for any reason by the employer before the end of the period.
