This is a great opportunity to join a strong team of administrators that support King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division.  The team fosters a collaborative environment and plays an instrumental role in keeping our wastewater treatment plants operating efficiently.  

As a socially responsible clean water agency, we protect public health and the environment by recovering and reusing valuable resources to benefit the communities where we live and work.  King County Wastewater Treatment Division treats billions of gallons of wastewater each year and generates reclaimed water, renewable energy, and valuable biosolids.  

The successful candidate will:
  • Directly support programs to ensure compliance with environmental regulations at the regional treatment plants and satellite facilities.   
  • Lead an effort to improve document storage for the wastewater process team.  A standard electronic file directory system is required at our regional treatment plants.   Once the system is created, the candidate will drive implementation of the standard. 
  • Lead an effort to find/build a system for tracking environmental compliance due dates and action owners.

Special projects may include digitization projects, along with monitoring schedule, scope and quality assurance and quality control issues, interfacing with County partners (Wastewater Treatment Division Finance, King County Information Technology) and external entities (environmental agencies, 3rd party vendors, etc.) and responsibilities for higher level administrative functions.

Job Duties

  • Analyze and evaluate data for assigned research projects and technical systems, access program models and prepare summary reports.
  • Participate in strategic planning efforts and help develop, implement and evaluate methods for monitoring existing and new administrative systems to support work activities at the unit and section .
  • Develop and coordinate routine and non-routine procurement contract specifications, including contract tracking, planning, and administration. Develop and implement method for monitoring existing and/or new work unit contracts.
  • Format and proofread memos, letters and complex documents such as contracts, amendments, reports, newsletters, and manuals, using County and Division style guidelines.
  • On a project basis, provide lead direction on timekeeping, procurement, and other administrative tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
  • Work Location:  West Point Treatment Plant - 1400 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA 98199
  • Work Schedule:  This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.
  • Union Representation:  This position is represented by Teamsters Local 117, Wastewater Treatment Division, Professional & Technical and Administrative Support - Department of Natural Resources & Parks.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Increasingly responsible office or administrative support experience with experience in supporting a group or team of employees OR an equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing documents.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, agreement/service contracts, union contracts, policies, regulations and laws.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing a high-volume workload with strict deadlines.
  • Communication skills, both orally and in writing and the ability to communicate with people from various and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Skill in comparing records and data for accuracy as well as researching/reconciling errors and discrepancies.
  • Organizational and project management skills.

Licensing, Certification and Other Requirements
  • A valid Washington State Driver’s License.  Travel to various sites, treatment plants, and off-site facilities will be required.
