Job Description | The School of Public Service in the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University (ODU) seeks highly qualified faculty candidates to serve as School Director and as a full-time faculty member at the rank of Professor. The position begins in July 2024. The School of Public Service houses a NASPAA-accredited M.P.A. program, a doctoral program (Ph.D.) in Public Administration & Policy, a graduate certificate in Public Administration & Policy, a graduate certificate in Public Procurement & Contract Management, and a minor in Public Service. The faculty and students at the School of Public Service are from diverse backgrounds. Students have a wide age range, with many of the M.P.A. and Ph.D. students holding senior positions in public service while others are early in their careers. The mission of the ODU School of Public Service is to lead in educating public service leaders, build and disseminate public service knowledge, and directly address community challenges in the multi-sector environment. The School of Public Service is committed to multi-sector partnerships which promote the intersection of and interaction between the public, government, nonprofit, and/or business sectors. The candidate should have an interest in expanding multi-sector partnerships and/or multi-sector public service as they relate to issues such as privatization, contracting, community engagement, or social entrepreneurship. Specific responsibilities: Given the School’s mission, part of the responsibilities of the School of Public Service Director will be to provide leadership to further the school’s mission, mentor junior faculty and students, and support excellence in research and teaching. Key aspects of these responsibilities include interacting, collaborating, and effectively communicating with a diverse faculty, student body, university administration, and external stakeholders. Exercising strong interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to shared governance, transparency, consensus building, and collaboration are also important components to achieve the School of Public Service success.
