How we build better communities.

Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager, the Phlebotomist properly identifies patients, performs phlebotomy and sends blood samples to laboratory technical areas for analysis, follows proper laboratory techniques, and generates computer generated patient reports for charting and distribution as necessary. This position may perform special tests such as bleeding times and glucose tolerance tests and maintains records of tests performed and blood samples taken.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine phlebotomy following established procedure.           
  • Prepares, positions, and informs patients.
  • Labels specimens following established procedure.
  • Performs assigned cleanup/inventory tasks including disposal, cleaning, inventory and restocking of supplies and equipment.
  • Performs all assigned computer transactions to ensure that accurate patient and procedure information is recorded in a timely fashion for the patient medical record and billing purposes.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Phlebotomy training certificate required; LA state license preferred.
  • Education:  High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience:  Graduation from an approved phlebotomy training program or 6 months work experience as a phlebotomist
  • Special qualifications: Must be able to successfully complete established competencies for the position within designated probationary period.  Demonstrated skill as a phlebotomist and ability to perform data entry. Current CPR certification required.
  • Work schedule:  Med/Surg - PRN
