Job Description

The Assistant Director for Grant Development will be responsible for advising and assisting Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics (BEAM) faculty in the preparation and submission of proposals for funding and ensure compliance with university and sponsor policies, procedures and requirements. The Assistant Director will serve as a liaison between VT's Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) and faculty and assist in resolving all proposal and grant related matters to ensure timely submission of grant proposals. The Assistant Director will assist faculty by:
- Preparing accurate program budgets in compliance with university guidelines and sponsor requirements
- Accurately completing VT and sponsor required documents in support of funding proposals (e.g. budget narratives; Form B, C, D, etc... 
- Initiating, submitting, and navigating proposals successfully through the VT OSP Summit system, Cayuse, and other designated internal and external submission portals.
- Serving as liaison between OSP, faculty, and sponsors when needed to address and resolve proposal and grant related issues.
- Applying extensive knowledge of government regulations, cost principles, and uniform administrative requirements to ensure accurate is included and presented on VT and sponsor documents and as well as proposal submissions.
-Provides guidance regarding federal and university policies and procedures and sponsor requirements.
The Assistant Director may also assist with grant maintenance responsibilities including: monitoring salary allocations; preparing labor redistributions; establishing, extending or terminating funds; monitoring project end dates and working with faculty to extend or close out programs; assist with PAR distribution and collection; and other similar post award financial and duties.

Required Qualifications

-Master's degree in Public or Business Administration, finance, or related field(s) or a Bachelor's degree in related field with significant training and or experience 
-Previous experience in the submission and management of research proposals. 
-Previous financial and/or administrative experience in support of research proposal submission and project administration
-Significant knowledge of, experience interpreting, and application of federal and non-federal regulations and guidelines, cost principles, uniform administrative requirements for grants and audits of states, local governments, and nonprofit organizations in a university or an agency funding or conducting research. .
-Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Word, Excel and large financial databases
-Previous experience accessing, compiling, analyzing, and synthesizing large data sets pulled from multiple computer systems.
-Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with diverse constituencies both internally and externally

Preferred Qualifications

Professional certification/designation as a Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM), or Virginia Tech Research Administrator Certificate (Level I and II)
-Experience with Banner, Summit, Research Financials, Fast Lane, MicroStrategy, ES Legacy Web Reports, Hokiemart, TEM, and Fixed Assets system
-Experience working in a higher education research institution

Pay Band

AP Faculty.  

Salary Information

Up to $55,000 DOQ/DOE
