Summary

The Parks Operations Section is filling a Special Duty opportunity for a Park Specialist III as a temporary staff lead for the Job & Housing Crew starting in January 2023. The Park Specialist III will provide crew leadership to special project team focused on maintenance, preservation, and restoration projects. This temporary assignment provides an opportunity to gain experience in crew leadership, collaboration with stakeholders, work plan development, daily management of tasks, coordination with other teams, etc.


Duration: The special duty opportunity is expected to last up to 12 months.  


Who is Eligible: King County Parks career service Park Specialist II Employees only. 

This recruitment will be used to create an eligibility list to fill current and future PS III Special Duty - Jobs & Housing Staff assignments through June 2023.


Work Location: Dispatch location will be from Marymoor Park but may change based on program and business need. Work projects will occur at various King County properties.
 
Work Schedule: This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.

 

Job Duties

PS III Responsibilities include: 

 

  • Leads will assign and monitor work of participants; perform assigned maintenance duties with team.  

  • Coordinate with PDMCs, archaeologist and other staff to develop work program specifics and logistics; adjust as needed during implementation.   

  • Conduct dispatch and may coordinate work with contracted program crew for achieving program objectives.  Includes project scheduling and monitoring. 

  • Coordinate/obtain program resources including ordering supplies, equipment, or support work from other Parks teams (HEC, Crafts, etc.) 

  • Provide training around work tasks, personal protective equipment (PPE) and work equipment. Coordinate training for special topics with other training providers. 

  • Being available and responsive via cell phone calls. Routinely check and respond to emails.  

  • Document and report issues to supervisors or duty officer when appropriate 

  • Complete reports and workflows including work orders, accident forms, incident reports; following through, and reporting up to supervisor. 

  • Attend meetings as designated by Supervisor, provide recap, or implement assigned tasks. 

  • Monitor, track, and report on program matrix. 

  • Collaborate on program and participant workplan with various stakeholders, including Jobs and Housing leadership, Parks leadership and support agencies. 

  • This position will report to the Jobs and Housing Supervisor or their designee within the Parks Division.
