A Police Clinician, under general supervision, performs evidence-based practice according to nationally recognized standards to reduce symptoms and maximize recovery for individuals engaged who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis. A Police Clinician is assigned to a precinct partnering in co-response in the community within the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Model. A Police Clinician ensures that all documentation of client contact, and treatment services is complete, thorough, and accurate, to meet all agency, state, and professional standards. An employee in this class conducts initial screen & assessments that accurately build on strengths and deficits resulting in a DSM diagnosis. All behavioral health professionals provide on-call support each month according to the determined schedule.
1. Must obtain a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major of Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related behavior field OR be eligible to graduate within 90 days of application and able to submit an official transcript upon appointment to position;
AND
Have a minimum of one (1) year of previous experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, mental illness and/or serious emotional disturbance OR have completed an internship at HealthWest or other agency working with youth or adults with mental health challenges (must be included on the application in the work experience section);
AND
Have or obtain a State of Michigan Limited or Full Masters Social Worker license, Limited or Full Marriage and Family Therapist License, Limited or Full Professional Counselor license, or Temporary or Limited Masters Psychologist license, or Full Psychologist License within 90 days of appointment.
2. Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Michigan Driver License within 30 days of employment.
3. Must have reliable transportation that may have to be used to carry out job duties of this classification.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
An employee in this class generally performs sedentary work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
A Police Clinician is assigned to a precinct and will generally interact with teams throughout the various HealthWest program locations; however, travel to locations within the County may be required.
EVALUATION CONTENT
Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
