Position Summary/Essential Duties:

1.  Provides psychiatric (or mental health) and psychosocial assessment and/or intervention to assist patients and families in the Pediatric Emergency Department.

2.  Communicates and collaborates with the work team using a multidisciplinary approach.

3.  Provides linkage to community resources and UH network services to facilitate optimal care.

4.  Provides age specific care to patients and families in all age groups.

5.  Develops and implements a comprehensive admission or discharge plan based on identified psychiatric and psychosocial needs identified during Pediatric ED visit.

6.  Provides guidance and serves as consultant to staff and other disciplines regarding complex psychosocial and/or discharge planning issues / barriers.

7.  Upon patient admission, communicates needs or concerns identified during emergency department visit with the inpatient social worker

Experience & Knowledge:

Hospital/Health Agency experience preferred.

Skilled at suicide risk assessment.

Familiar with DSM 5 diagnoses and general knowledge of treatment for these diagnoses.

 

Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

Computer skills.                                                                                                     

Theoretical and clinical knowledge regarding health care delivery.

Multi-tasks and prioritizes work.

Works autonomously.

Communicates effectively with persons of various backgrounds.

 

Education/Expertise:

Master’s degree from an accredited school of Social Work

 

Required Credentials, License and/or Certifications:

Licensed by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board at the LISW or LISW-S  level; Attainment of LISW-S level encouraged.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working with pediatric emergency situations is strongly preferred.  Will focus on both the psychiatric and the medical side of social work. Must be flexible and able to work any day of the week. Schedule is (3) 12 hour shifts, Monday-Friday with rotating weekends and holidays. Hours are 11:00am-11:00pm.
