Custodian

Putnam County High School is seeking a full-time Custodian with an anticipated start date of May 2021. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Experience and skill in cleaning, electricity, plumbing, HVAC, general maintenance and repair of equipment; experience in custodial services; must be in good health and pass a TB test and physical exam 

JOB GOAL: 

To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

General Housekeeping 1. Sweep or vacuum assigned areas 2. Dust furniture in assigned areas 3. Clean corridors, cafeteria and gymnasium during the day when their condition requires it Mop and disinfect toilet floors daily and clean all sanitary fixtures daily Wash all windows both inside and outside at least twice a year and more frequently if necessary Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation Check and clean restrooms throughout the school day Share cleaning of any area as assigned Clean kitchen and cafeteria after lunch has been served 

Perform scheduled summer cleaning prior to the beginning of the school year 1. During the school day, clean water fountain as needed  

Building Maintenance 

Keep building clean and neat at all times Regulate heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity Check daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy Make mechanical building repairs as needed Report major repairs needed promptly to the principal and maintenance supervisor Provide regularly scheduled maintenance for all motors and other mechanical equipment Conduct periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to insure their safe condition Annually check the fire extinguishers and bring them into compliance  

Grounds Maintenance 1. Keep premises including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times Shovel, plow and/or sand/salt walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate Raise the United States flag at or before 8:00 a.m, each workday and lower it at or after 3:30 p.m. Keep grounds free from rubbish Perform all yardkeeping chores including grass cutting and tree trimming as assigned to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition 

Other Duties 

When assigned, haul food to Hopkins Building When assigned, pick up mail Report immediately to the principal any damage to school property Remain on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the principal Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving that all doors and windows are secured and all lights except those left on for safety reasons are turned off Conduct an on-going program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities as directed by the principal or maintenance supervisor Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste 

Ensure that buses assigned to individual buildings are inspected 10. Receive and store all school supplies received during shift 

In buildings where there is no Custodian II available, assume responsibility of Custodian II's job description Perform any other jobs or duties as assigned
