Job Description

The Post-Award Grant Coordinator in the Dean's Office within the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine will provide support for post award financial management of sponsored programs activity. The Post-Award Grant Coordinator will ensure that all sponsor terms/conditions and university policies/procedures are followed and that all financial transactions are posted in a timely manner. The position will monitor revenue and expense on sponsored funds and provide reporting regarding the burn rate on these projects. This position will frequently consult with research faculty and senior management regarding financial performance and will be the liaison between faculty and the Office of Sponsored Programs. Additionally, the position will work closely with Accounts Payable and Payroll. This position is required to manage multiple time sensitive issues, exercise judgment within defined procedures and policies, and determine appropriate action required in order to bring grants to fulfillment. The position will manage a large portfolio of diverse research projects and will serve as a primary college resource to interpret and implement sponsor guidelines, federal and state regulations, and university policies and procedures to minimize any compliance risk. This person will provide guidance, education and training to unit and departmental staff associated with sponsored activities. It will be imperative that the Post-Award Grant Coordinator keep abreast of new developments in the field of research administration, federal regulations, policies, and procedures in order to serve as a subject matter expert. |This position will foster teamwork and collaboration, with demonstrated organizational skills and high commitment to customer service by applying skills and experience to the review and management of sponsored research budgets and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and guidelines. The position reports to the Director of Budget and Finance and will work closely with the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and the Grants and Contracts officer within the Department of Research and Graduate Studies|

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or related field or an equivalent level of training and experience that demonstrates knowledge of academic and research environments. Demonstrated experience independently providing financial support including experience in budget planning, accounting procedures and fiscal management tasks. Possess familiarity with contract and grant award and/or administration regulations with demonstrated ability to interpret and disseminate programmatic information to a diverse clientele. Ability to independently set priorities, manage tasks, and meet deadlines. Experience generating documents and reports using various database and spreadsheet software programs such as MS Word, Excel, and financial database and warehouse systems such as Microstrategy. Skilled in managing effort allocations for a large pool of faculty that charge to multiple funding sources. Possess effective communication skills and be able to work as part of a larger team. Must effectively accept challenges and responsibility and take pride in setting and achieving goals. Demonstrate the desire to work in a student and research oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with Banner Finance, Hokiemart, Corporate Purchasing Card and Virginia Tech Foundation funds. Knowledge of proposal submittal processes in a research environment. Understanding of state, federal, sponsor and university regulations and procedures related to grants management activity. Excellent analytical skills. Preference given to Certified Research Administrators.
