Responsible for the management of critical clinical IT&S applications across UH.  Is responsible for creating relationships and working with senior customer constituencies in the following departments/areas: Nursing, Pharmacy, physicians, Laboratory, Radiology, Perioperative Services, Cardiovascular services, Neurologic Institute, Ireland Cancer Center, Rainbow Babies and Childrens’ hospitals, MacDonald House, Research, Quality Center, Chief Medical Officer, and others.

Essential Duties:

  • Directly manages staff members, and is responsible for ensuring their work output is satisfactory and their concerns are resolved.  Is responsible for all hiring and related personnel decisions, completing routine performance review evaluations, training, professional development, scheduling, and the like.
  • Builds and maintains customers’ relationships at the Director, Vice President, Senior Vice President, and Senior Executive level.
  • Maintains expertise in the areas utilizing clinical applications and makes IT&S business recommendations and decisions that support complex, system-wide business processes.
  • Partners with customer departments and IT&S team members at UH to translate business requirements into viable solutions.
  • Leads strategic planning sessions with and conducts presentations for Senior Leadership.
  • Executes and performs Executive On Call IT&S responsibilities for major system outages, disaster management, change control matters, and the like.
  • Partners with the Project Management Office to support all phases of project implementation; maintains expertise in Project Management.
  • Develops and adheres to approved budget; oversees and approves departmental spending.
  • Displays commitment to the mission of the hospital and its values, while maintaining high standards of integrity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

*This role may encounter Protected Health Information (PHI) as part of regular responsibilities.  UH employees must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain PHI for our patients.  Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Minimum 7 years experience in a healthcare IT environment with a focus on clinical applications required.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Epic experience preferred.
  • This position requires an extensive understanding of the clinical applications that support clinical departments and/or departmenal applications.
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized, with good analytical and problem solving ability. 
  • Notable client service, communication and relationship building skills required. 
  • Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment required
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Change management experience required.
  • Has a strong understanding of regulatory agencies such as JCAHO and HIPAA. 
  • Prior project management experience in healthcare preferred.

Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office suite and general office equipment (i.e., printers, copy machine, FAX machine, etc.) required.
  • Knowledge of MS Visio and Project required.
  • Knowledgeable of ITIL standards required.
  • Disaster Recovery testing experience required

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/ Business/Nursing/Pharmacy or Healthcare IT Management required.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.

Credentials, Licensure or Certification (i.e. RN, RRT):

  • Industry Group Participation; ex: HIMSS preferred.
  • PMP Certification preferred.
  • Change Management Certification preferred.
  • Epic Certifications preferred.
