Job Description:

Description of Department:   Facilities Services department is comprised of four integrated and allied departments. These are the Environmental Health and Safety Office, the Sustainability Office, the Facilities Management Department(s), and the Facilities Operations Department(s). The Department is made up of nearly 300 fulltime employees and an additional 50 to 100 seasonal employees with and yearly operating budget of $14.0m. This budget is primarily dedicated to the maintenance and repair of the University's existing buildings and infrastructure.  Additionally, the Department oversees the University's annual Capital Renewal with an average annual investment of ~$30 million dollars. 

Facilities Operations Management (FO) plays a vital role in supporting both the Department and University.  FMO has a staff if nearly 200 full time and seasonal staff with and yearly operation budget of $7.0m is to ensure the general upkeep, maintenance, and renewal of the College's buildings, equipment, systems, parking lots, and surrounding environment in compliance with SUNY Oswego standards and applicable regulations. Additionally, the department supports all campus events.

Description of Responsibilities:  

  • Provides general direction and leadership for all aspects of departmental functions in order to maintain their efficient operation, including, custodial services, automotive repair/fleet management, receiving & mail services, and grounds maintenance.
  • Assists in developing and managing the use of facilities renewal budgets and long-term planning of facility upgrades and replacements.
  • Directs the use of a work order management system to provide service and repairs as well as routine, predictive and preventative maintenance. Provides oversite and direction in the development and preparation of performance and financial metrics.
  • Maintains and nurtures effective communication and partnerships throughout the campus by conferring with business units and campus leadership on issues pertaining to the promotion and understanding of departmental functions.
  • Develops and implements standards, policies and procedures to improve productivity and customer service.
  • Works with allied maintenance units to ensure the efficient operation of all campus utilities, including central generation of high temperature hot water heating and chilled water for cooling and distribution through a campus tunnel system. Leads efforts for coordinating and communicating campus outages.
  • Facilitates the operations and maintenance review of documents for new projects, ensuring compliance and best practices to optimize life cycle costs and efforts.
  • Manages the operational response to unplanned urgent conditions such as on-campus and off-campus utility failures, weather conditions and other emergencies.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Administration/Management or allied discipline;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and 7 or more years of job-related experience in operational management, human resources, or event management;
  • Knowledge and experience in sustainable operations
  • Knowledge of Federal and State human resource management laws and regulations;
  • Five or more years of leading and supervising professional and classified staff;
  • Experience managing budgets and training personnel;
  • Experience working with shared leadership via cross-functional teams;
  • Able to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays; 
  • Valid New York State Driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree in Administration/Management or allied discipline
