POSITION TITLE:                          Transfusion Services Lab Supervisor

DEPARTMENT:                              NorthShore Transfusion Services Lab

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:          Reference Lab Manager

DATE NEEDED:                             Immediately

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Oversee the operation of the transfusion laboratory, assure that all testing, both routine and complex, are performed in accordance with regulatory agencies, all aspects of quality control are performed by competent staff appropriately and on time, assist in validation of new equipment and writing of new SOP’s, update current SOP’s in accordance with changes in regulatory standards, evaluate staff performance and assist in training of new personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Licenses: MT/MLS(ASCP) or (AAB), SBB (preferred) and LA CLS-G license

Education: AS or BS degree in Medical Technology or Science with appropriate credentials

Must meet the qualifications of a CAP General Supervisor

  1. Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology with at least one year experience with high complexity testing, or

  2. Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology program with at least two years’ experience with high complexity testing, or

  3. Have previously qualified or could have qualified as a general supervisor prior to 2/28/1992

Experience: Two years supervisory experience in blood banking and at least five years of medical technology experience, preferably in immunohematology

Specific Skills: Must have computer knowledge, good communicational skills, ability to consult with staff and clients on transfusion related issues, ability to organize and manage both staff and time, extensive blood bank knowledge and the ability to resolve complex antibody problems, be a critical thinker, problem solver and possess independent working abilities
