Job Summary | Education Coordinators are responsible for the development, delivery, and daily management of engaging K-12 science education programs as assigned by the Field Trips and Teacher Resources Manager. Education Coordinators will ensure all programming delivered is in direct support of the Museum’s mission and is innovative, engaging, and effective, as determined by evaluation. This position coordinates the field trip program including self-guided field trips, partner field trips, homeschool groups, and associated programming. |
Responsibilities | Essential Position Functions: ● Create and manage reservations for school field trips to NHMU. ● Manage program budget, reporting, and participant communications on a timely basis for assigned program(s). ● Lead the development, evaluation, and refinement of assigned NHMU’s K-12 student and teacher science education programs including curriculum, pedagogy, delivery coordination, and supporting materials. ● Work with NHMU database systems to provide accurate data tracking and reporting for assigned program(s). ● Collaborate with Museum staff, educators, and research scientists to improve NHMU’s work with K-12 teachers and students. ● Facilitate on-site science education programs with K-12 students and teachers. ● Collaborate with Field Trips and Teacher Resources Manager in establishing short- and long-term goals for assigned program(s). ● Deliver extraordinary customer service to all Museum guests and internal staff. ● Contribute to Museum-wide goals. ● Develop and maintain professional peer contacts with partner organizations and internal staff to stay current on educational and scientific information and pursue collaborative opportunities. |
Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), and two years related experience required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. |
Preferences | ● Two years experience in developing and teaching formal and/or informal educational programs ● Broad knowledge of natural history topics and program coordination experience preferred ● Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and willingness to learn new softwares. ● Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal ● Possess a valid driver’s license; ability to travel and occasionally remain overnight ● Be able to manage/lift teaching kits weighing up to 50 pounds |
