About the Position

As New Horizons' Marketing and Communications Manager you'll be our knowledgeable leader for all of our marketing and communication efforts - working across multiple channels with a strong digital focus. You'll succeed by collaborating closely with your colleagues to strategically craft a proactive Communications/PR plan that bring awareness and action to achieve New Horizons' goals.

Principle Responsibilities:

Marketing/Communications:

  • Oversee cross-department collaboration for consistent mission focused messaging that is audience-centered, action oriented, and relevant.
  • Lead and support your fundraising/program colleagues by strategizing/activating marketing and communications strategies across multiple channels.
  • Manage all social media.
  • Monitor and prepare reports based on KPIs for campaign activations.
  • Participate in business development activities and new marketing efforts for New Horizons as needed.

Branding and External Public Relations

  • Protect and advance New Horizons' brand by reviewing, editing and approving key external facing content.
  • Ensure New Horizons' branding guidelines remain up-to-date, helping staff understand our branding and language.
  • Identify and secure new media partners to promote New Horizons events, awareness and education
  • Develop public service announcements and press releases
  • Develop and implement both proactive and reactive public relations strategies.
  • Manage all New Horizons event marketing/communication including pre event promotion, day of show and post event.
  • Identify inspirational and informative speakers and support them to authentically develop key messaging and storytelling.

Copywriting

  • Collaborate with program and fundraising staff to capture compelling youth stories, and the ability to share the stories of our young people from an anti-racist, youth empowering point of view.
  • Draft strategic and engaging copy for a variety of communication(s) including: social media posts, e-newsletters, donor appeals and stewardship, phone-a-thons, annual reports and more.
  • Create and edit marketing and communications copy to ensure accuracy, quality, consistency and timeliness of brand messaging.
  • Develop program scripts and talking points for New Horizons events and media opportunities.
  • Create/edit mission-specific messaging.
  • Create donor appeals and cultivation pieces including acknowledgement letters, newsletters and email messages.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in relevant roles in the corporate or non-profit sectors.
  • Strategic planner and thinker
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An ability to organize information and communicate effectively with a wide-variety of stakeholders,
  • Understanding of the diverse communities we serve, passion for the mission and goals of New Horizons, public service, social justice, and youth development.
  • Knowledge of current marketing/communication/PR methods and emerging trends with a willingness to teach others.
  • Prior success working independently and as part of a team which includes having the flexibility to work with a wide range of professional styles and the ability to handle multiple priorities

Things we'd be Excited to Hear About

  • Experience and familiarity with website design and usage best practices; website content management systems (including Adobe, Constant Contact, WordPress, Squarespace, etc.), search engine optimization; and web analytics.
  • Advocacy or campaign experience
  • Experience working with nonprofits, whether as a volunteer/employee and familiarity with getting the most out of modest budgets.
  • Comfort thinking about how the offline world intersects with online experiences, and vice versa.

Compensation and Benefits

New Horizons' Marketing and Communications Manager will be paid $43,000-47,500 DOE. New Horizons also offers an excellent benefits package including extensive Paid Time Off (PTO) days and five paid holidays off each year, as well as medical, dental and life insurance, and access to a 403(b) retirement plan.
